The Role of Stress and Anxiety In Erectile Dysfunction

 

Stress and Anxiety are top mental conditions that are responsible for various ailments and there is a possibility these conditions can cause disruption in the way the brain sends signals to the penile region to allow sufficient blood flow for strong erection when you are sexually excited. But when you are constantly under the spell of stress and anxiety it can lead to erectile dysfunction (ED) – is an abnormal physical or psychological state of a male, marked by his inability to engage in sexual intercourse because of failure to have or maintain an erection.

Another mental issue that can cause erectile dysfunction is with anxiety – it is an extreme state of worry or fear resulting from an anticipation of an event which may be realistic or imaginary. Some of the symptoms of anxiety include – nausea, extreme worry, sweating, nervousness, afraid of danger and insomnia. Anxiety needs to be fixed you cannot ignore the symptoms of anxiety as it may affect your sexual life.

It is important to know that psychological state of mind plays a vital role in your well being, when you are stressed or experiencing anxiety you may experience sexual problems because your sexual urge depends upon the stimulation caused by your chemicals in brain. When your mental state is disturbed there are not sufficient brain chemicals to stimulate the blood flow needed for an erection, which results in erectile dysfunction.

Studies claim that living a healthy lifestyle can help you cope with mental issues, it increases your ability to handle situations in a more mature manner and does not allow it to affect your everyday life and that includes your sexual life. To lead a healthy lifestyle exercising everyday is the key as it definitely plays a crucial role in keeping you mentally and physically fit. It has been proved that many health related issues like – depression, stress and anxiety can be controlled through exercise. Exercise help you sleep better, distress and boosts over all physical and mental health. Apart from exercise, eating healthy food, not smoking and limiting your alcohol intake can reduce your risk for erectile dysfunction.
