There are certain symptoms of this disorder that you can identify. Aphasia is one of the symptoms. This affects the patient’s language skills. In this there are two categories of aphasia. Wernicke’s aphasia and Broca’s aphasia are the two types of Aphasia. This generally creates the issue of inability to use or understand language both spoken and written because of a brain lesion. Dementia is also another symptom of brain atrophy. In this the patient has language problems and they find to difficult to read and write and understand language as well. Another prime symptom of brain atrophy is seizure. Seizures can result in change in consciousness that ranges from staring spell to complete loss of consciousness. Confusion and temporary loss of memory can also happen. Patients can also lose muscle control due to the problem of seizure.
Normal ageing process can also cause the problem of brain atrophy. It starts in the adulthood and it shows its prominent signs till the time an individual reaches the age of sixty. This happens due to the number of cells that decreases with the progress of age. Also, there are other factors also that cause the problem of brain atrophy. Diseases like Alzheimer’s disease, Huntington’s disease, corticobasal degeneration, posterior cortical atrophy also contribute to the problem of brain atrophy. Some of the infectious diseases can also cause the problem of brain atrophy due to infectious pathogens and bacteria attacking the brain cells. Deficiency in vitamin B12 in the body can also result in brain atrophy and also excessive use of alcohol can have a negative effect on your brain and cause the problem of brain atrophy in you.
